Today's star ad is the earliest one I have, which I found in a 1931 issue of Pictorial Review.
Nazimova for Lux Toilet Soap
As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, toilet soap had nothing to do with your toilet. It had the idea of toilette, i.e bathing yourself, making yourself presentable.
Alla Nazimova - who always went by her last name only - was quite the firecracker in the 1910s and 1920s.
Whenever I see her name - which is almost never - I hear it spoken in my head by A. J. Benza. Her name was mentioned in one of the episodes of Mysteries & Scandals, which was a show that I LOVED, and wish was still running on tv.
