There are few things more likely to encourage people to smoke than a woman riding a giant tortoise.

The best part of wakin' up is a rooster on your cup.

Three 1940s/'50s peeps staycationing on the roof.
They're sorta wrapped around the circumference of the cup, which is kinda cool.

My throat is KILLING me/

Why is my throat killing me?

Because...

for the last 3 days I've been doing my standardized patient work*, and the case (we call them cases) is playing somebody with a bad cough whose also a heavy smoker.

For some reason, it seems I get all the cough-related cases.  I guess I cough good.

Anyway, because I'm all about truth I coughed in a really convincing manner, for eleven students a day x three.  And now I'm suffering big time for my art.

Just thought you'd want to share my pain.

* Check the October 7, 2011 post for more info on my standardized patient career.

the Tuesday Song of the Week

This week we got two songs, one singer.

'Fly Me to the Moon' and 'Tell Him' - Alma Cogan

If you never heard of Alma Cogan, especially if you like the swinging pop of the 1950s and '60s, you should definitely seek her out.  It's amazing that she was almost unknown in the US, but in my opinion she could out-sing Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, and all those other fondly remembered 'songstresses.'

Sadly, she checked out in 1966 from cancer, at age 34.  Had she lived, I'm sure ten years later, she'd have put out an unbelievable disco album
