August's Fourth Haul of Antiques and Untiques

A nice collection of rarities and must-haves:

first we have this mahhhvelous cook book

Menus for Entertaining

What's so neat about this cookbook is that it has menus/recipes for a variety of events you might find yourself putting together.

Say you want to do a Hungarian dinner for six, or a formal luncheon for four, or a Thanksgiving dinner for twelve, there's a menu and recipes (99.9% of which I've never heard of) for all these.

Or maybe you wanna do a pique-nique à la Française for four, a Malayan brunch for twelve, or a buffet supper smörgåsbord for sixteen, the book has you covered.

Plus, there's a recipe for lime chiffon pie that's worth the price of the book.

    We be having Libby from the 1939 New York World's Fair  SOLD

 in piggy bank form

Initially, I thought this was Libby the glass company.  But it turns out that Libby the glass company spells its name as Libbey.  So this is Libby the vegetable company.

Something very neato for your collection of 1939 World's Fair collectibles, and/or your collection of vintage advertising items, and/or your collection of old still banks.

=======================================================================

next up, we have two GORGEOUS marigold carnival glass pitchers SOLD

I couldn't find the pattern for this one: it sorta looks like Rising Sun married with the Hob Star and Arches pattern.

======================================================================

This one has the true Rising Sun pattern SOLD

========================================================================

Etwas Spaß fűr die Deutsche sprecher

The message on the plate translates as 'Schnapps was His last word,which the angels carried away.'  Presumably to planet Earth.

=======================================================================

Lastly, but thousands of miles from leastly, we have a Japanese geisha ware hair receiver.

Just this week, I got a whole collection of antique hair receivers. Soon to appear here.

Paris Is Burning

I remember seeing this movie, liking this movie, but I totally forgot the title. All I remember about it specifically is two Latin boys bitching about straight white women.

A neat watch if you have any interest in subcultures.

The Star Made Me Buy It

 Today's star is the very adorable Margaret O'Brien for Warren's Mint Cocktail Chewing Gum

All - or almost all - of the items the stars in my TSMMBI listings are selling are things I've heard of.  I've never heard of Warren's Chewing Gum.

Margaret O'Brien was one of the cutest child actresses ever.  As talented and cute as Shirley Temple was, Ms. O'Brien was more like a real kid.

In the ad, she's about ten years old.

August's Third Haul of Antiques and Untiques

I'm really ramping things up because a) I really need to empty the garage, and b) things are selling so fast that I don't get a chance to post them here.

The Tuesday Song of the Week

When I was around age 10 one of my grandmothers passed, and my family inherited her entire record collection, including Al Hirt's Honey in the Horn album, from which comes our swingin' TSOTW.

'Java' - Al Hirt

Mug of the Month

 Something mysterious and colorful and parrot-ey:

Get it here:  https://www.zazzle.com/case_of_the_perjured_parrot_coffee_mug-168289366727185187

A really neat thing would be to have a whole collection of mugs printed with these old mystery novel covers.

You could find a bunch - and other related stuff with prints of old pulp paperback covers - here:

 https://www.zazzle.com/store/the_olden_eye/products?qs=paperback

There used to be a thrift store in the Villas (Cape May County) that had one room that was all books.  I used to find TONS of these old paperbacks with the awesome covers there. Alas, the owner got sick, the store closed down, and now I have a very hard time finding these kinds of books.

Alas again, years before there was a Zazzle, or even an Etsy, I got two HUGE boxes of these kinds of books at an auction.  They ended up on eBay.  Just wish I'd scanned the covers.

========================================================================
