==========================================================================

1920s swan wall sconces

These beauties were salvaged when an old house in Spring Lake, NJ was torn down.  The median family income in Spring Lake is $150,000 a year.  Likely the house was torn down so a 6000-square foot McMansion could be slapped up on the property.

That's it for today.  As previously mentioned, MUCH more coming!

August's antiques and untiques

This has been a VERY great month for the old and awesome.

first up is this classic Goldra Pottery violin wall pocket.

=============================================================================

Honest Abe is in the house!
in paperweight form!!

Made in the 1970s by Wheaton Glass, late of Millville, NJ.

The paperweight is beautiful - as you can plainly see - but is in as-found condition.  You can see a teeny bit of damage where 'APR' is, slightly to the northeast of his beard.

=============================================================================

                             It's monkey time!        SOLD

This is a set of three monkey egg cups, made in the early 1960s by Goebel.

This is another as-found item, since the thing they rest on has a little chip.

The monkeys themselves are in their original, perfectly simian condition.

=============================================================================

             suh'm kinda Hollywood Regency   SOLD
These are deep-well frames with glass on the front.  There's about an inch between the images and the glass.

=============================================================================

We be having folk art
in wall plaque form !
===========================================================================

Admiral Dewey is also in the house !!
Another as-found item, but this one is over 120 years old, so it's understandable.

A great addition to the mantiques collection and/or mantiques decor.
=============================================================================

  1930s Hall salt & pepper shakers   SOLD
These hold a LOT of salt and pepper, since they're both about 5" high.

=============================================================================

Omar Khayyam is in the house !
courtesy of Royal Doulton

A great gift for the fan of old timey literature and/or for the mantiques collection.
=============================================================================

Next a VERY pretty Cordey China lady
=============================================================================

That's all for today, but because there is SOOOOOOOOO much more in the pipeline, there will likely be an August's antiques and untiques Part II.

Bag o' the Day

Today we have a REALLY marvelous bag,

to wit...
the King of Hearts on one side

and the Queen of Hearts on the other
Although the Queen doesn't look all that great in the above photo, in person she looks EXACTLY as good as the King looks.  Which is VERY good indeed.

It's a puzzle

...or rather puzzles plural.

A thrift shop I volunteer at is visited a couple times a year by a guy who collects jigsaw puzzles.

Last time I saw him, he was with a buddy who is also a jigsaw puzzle aficionado.

So today's collection features puzzles that might appeal to men, beings as they're all from old timey car advertisements:

1939 Lincoln Zephyr
=============================================================================

1939 Packard
One of my very few square puzzles.
=============================================================================

1951 Plymouth Cranbrook
I hand-colored that one.
=============================================================================

1957 Chevy Bel Air
=============================================================================

1960s Bonneville convertible
Note that the actual puzzle is NOT as blurry as the above image.  Try as I might I can never get these images to be as sharp as they are in person.
=============================================================================

To see all TWO THOUSAND plus - yes! Over two thousand puzzles that are in my shop, go here:

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star

Barbara Stanwyck for Max Factor Tri-Color lipstick

I posted a later ad with Ms. Stanwyck around this time last year.  That was the first -- and until that time - the only ad I had ever seen with her.

She looks way more attractive on this one.

When I was a kid, I only knew her from The Big Valley, and I did not like her one bit.  I found her cold and harsh.

Since then I've seen a bunch of her movies, and now I'm a big fan.

Bag o' the Day

Today's bag features a...
zebra
and not just a zebra, but a strawberry zebra (equidae strawberricus).

This rare creature has some relation to the strawberry tiger, which appeared on a tie I posted awhile back.

Both the tiger and the zebra can only be found in remote areas of  Bjarmaland, Cockaigne, and Gorias.

You may never see another one !!

The Tuesday Song of the Week

I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with this.  Been very busy and/or distracted.

Nevertheless, attention must be paid.

So today, we got Frank, singing something that's a standby in my personal in-car concerts:
