Latest Antiques and Untiques

Have found some SUPER MEGA AWESOME stuff over the last month or two, much of it from my favorite antique shop, which, because it was closing for good, had some very deep discounts.

This was one of those rare stores that had been in business for decades, selling ONLY antiques.  I'm kinda devastated, but I'll probably eventually get over it.

Now on to what you came for...

ten teeny tiny cookie cutters

These are almost too small for actual cookies, since from nose to tail, size ranges from 1.25" to 2".  but they would be perfect for cookie embellishments, and cake embellishments.

There are three birds, one of which is obviously a duck, and one which looks like it be a chick.  The third suggests a sparrow.

There's one fish.

There are also a cat, a fox, a cow (which actually might be a bear.  It's hard to tell.), what looks like it might be a bunny,

The rest are hard to identify, but at least one is definitely a dog.

And hey, if you don't want to use these for baking and/or crafty pursuits, there's also the challenge of getting all of them into their little metal home.  That could be a game in itself!
It took me a really long time to get all of them in there.

Next we have something for the marriage-minded

A very small wedding, size-wise since the officiant is the tallest, at only 4.25" high.  I'm actually pretty sure I have a bisque parson figurine, same size as the groom, same age (from around 1930), but if it do, he's buried somewhere in my Magical Garage of Wonders.

===================================================================

next up something very purple and lovely

in amethyst tree form

note that the colors are waayyyyy stronger in person.

 I had to use a flash, or all you'd see would be a purplish blot.

======================================================================

If you need someone to keep you in line, we have the answer:  SOLD

He's only 2.75" high, but his disapproval of how you currently live you life is guaranteed to put you on the path of success and such and such.

====================================================================

Now for something so rare, so maahvelous. so completely all that and then some, you oughta sit down, pull up your socks, and pay attention:

A tooled leather handbag dated 1888.

That little brown part on the side is an indication that there's an exterior pocket.

lotsa neat heads

full back view

The metal clasp and frame are as shiny as when this was new.  And overall, the bag is in astonishing condition, considering it's at least 134 years old.

The paperwork found in the bag
Mrs. Garrett was the wife of Thomas C. Garrett, mayor of Atlantic City, NJ from 1885 to 1887.The Tiltons were also prominent in NJ history. There's a Tilton Road in Atlantic County.

========================================================================

Another marvel, from maybe a decade after the date of the above bag:

carved conch shell lamp shade

small, and therefore perfect for a fairy lamp, or other smallish lamp

Our final item in this collection is this neato 1960s papier mache still bank

Fine condition AND with her original stopper.

The Star Made Me Buy It

 Today's star is the very cute - when she was young - Bonita Granville, here in 1944 selling Jergen's Lotion.  .

My original impression was that her career was mainly in Andy Hardy movies, but I got that wrong, wrong, wrong. She was in only two of them. She had her own series of movies in the late 1930s, playing Nancy Drew.  She was also in Now, Voyager, and Third Finger, Left Hand, both of which are movies I always stop for if I catch them when I'm channel-surfing..

Bag o' the Day

 With the popularity of the series The Crown, peeps are getting more interested in the British royal family, a centuries-long soap opera.

I submit that it was more interesting long before Queen Elizabeth II arrived on the scene.  The highlight season was the period between 1800 and 1910 or so.

One of the better known supporting characters was HRH The Princess of Wales, Alexandra of Denmark.

Alexandra was one of the few acknowledged 'beauties,' of the era who actually still looks good to modern eyes.

Especially on a tote bag!

2022's First Haul of Antiques and Untiques

Happy New Year!

And a happy look at some very awesome awesomeness, antique-ally and untique-ally speaking.

Here we go, starting with something VERY unique...

     1970s embroidered wool blanket  SOLD

2022 is my 30th year as an antiques dealer, yet  I've never found ANYTHING like the above.

The embroidery is made up of a racoon, a chipmunk, a bunny rabbit...

a cardinal, a robin...

some butterflies...

a mushroom, some corn..

and lotsa plants and flowers.

Size is 50" x 72", plus another 3.25" of fringe.  SUPER condition, only imperfection being a teensy weensy moth bite or three.

========================================================================

 Welcome to the dance!

In this pic, it almost looks as if she's seated.  Notice the placement of her waist, and you see that she IS standing, and her skirt is just flouncing in an epic manner.

What looks like dirt on her skirt is actually gold sparkly-ness.

My camera's flash makes it look not so good.  But in person, it's lovely.

And when you're through dancing, you can plant a plant in the back!
She's 8.25" tall.

=================================================================

SYROCO!!!!

Oh, how I love those old Syroco wall plaques, and the two VERY neato ones currently on offer

fruit

and flowers
====================================================================

Next up, the most interesting Asian vase EVER

I thought maybe it was Chinese - and it may be - but I'm really not sure.

Anybody have any idea?

Then I thought, 'Maybe it's Korean,' but I haven't found any Korean pottery that looks like this.

The only thing I'm sure of it how awesome it is.

=====================================================================

Next we have some natural marvelousness   SOLD

striped fox horse conch shell

=========================================================================

Lastly, we have this ADORABLE Erphila beagle puppy figurine   SOLD

Check out the big puppy paws.

Check out the sweet puppy expression.
