October's Second Haul of Antiques and Untiques

 As ever the rare, the awesome, and the thoroughly marvelous...

First up, some BIG pendants

two turtle pendant: height from the top turtle's nose to the bottom turtle's tail 4.5" SOLD

and one even bigger

Width 2.75", length from top to dangles at the bottom 6-7/8"

=======================================================================

Something that, in my opinion, is mind-bogglingly cute, to wit: a red bird flower frog

I'm the recent recipient of a whole collection of flower frogs, mostly birds.

=======================================================================

suh'm pretty, and perfect for gifting!

14k gold Sandro Sebastianelli shell cameo brooch/pendant

It's a brooch! It's a pendant!

=======================================================================

 another super-cute item!

      Framed tatted kitty cats!!  SOLD

========================================================================

Lastly, and seven or eight parsecs from leastly, we have...

History's Most Unique Buddha Statue  SOLD

In my 30 years of antiquing and untiquing (30th anniversary of my foray into being a real antiques dealer was last month.  Whoo hoo!!), I have seen hundreds, or maybe even a thousand or two, representations of the Buddha.  But nothing like this one.

The piece is carved from teak and weighs a ton.

The quality of the carving is just astonishing.

And know this: It looks waayyyyyyy better in person!!!!!

Why is that?  Because I had to use my flash for most of the details, which caused the wood to look washed out a bit.

This would be a VERY awesome gift for the person with an Asian decor, Oriental decor, Buddhist decor and/or for a Buddha collector.

That's all for today.

Bag o' the Day

Today's bag features a super cute Scottie dog dressed and carrying an umbrella that matches her attire

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is George Montgomery for Stetson hats:

The ad is from 1948.  I figured that out because the movie mentioned at the top of the ad came out that year.

I basically know zilch about George Montgomery, and when I saw pix of him on the 'net, he looked almost exactly like five other male stars from that period.  Just wish I could name them all.

I remember my dad wearing hats similar to that to work every day.

October's First Haul of Antiques and Untiques

 I usually post the first haul in the first third of the month, but I've been busy with all kinds of other stuff.

Anyway, here it is!

First up, a beeYOOtiful footed art glass bowl

in a shade of blue that's stronger than what you see here.

===========================================================================

cute print secretary dress circa 1979

very all that floral print, accordion pleat skirt

There are no labels here, nor any belt loops, so I'm guessing this was made by a VERY able home seamstress.

========================================================================

next, something about 70 years younger than the above dress  SOLD

a lovely sterling silver brooch marked 'John Wanamaker sterling.'

Eons ago, I had a sterling silver mesh bag, also marked John Wanamaker.

Haven't found any jewelry signed John Wanamaker dating any later than 1935 or so.

John Wanamaker aka Wanamaker's was a Philadelphia area department store chain.  Their flagship store on 13th street was probably the most beautiful department store in the USA.

========================================================================

something VERY neato for the crafter

These VERY cute double bird thingies are made from mother of pearl.

Two holes, one in each bird's feathers, so you can sew these onto just about anything!!

=====================================================================

Dutch speculaas molds/ cookie molds/ springerle molds !

for cookie making OR home decor!!

retrofitted at some point with metal loops for hanging purposes

 below is another one!  SOLD

======================================================================

We're wrapping this collection up with this fabulous geisha ware teapot/chocolate pot

===========================================================================

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star ad is the earliest one I have, which I found in a 1931 issue of Pictorial Review.

Nazimova for Lux Toilet Soap

As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, toilet soap had nothing to do with your toilet.  It had the idea of toilette, i.e bathing yourself, making yourself presentable.

Alla Nazimova - who always went by her last name only - was quite the firecracker in the 1910s and 1920s.

Whenever I see her name - which is almost never - I hear it spoken in my head by A. J. Benza.  Her name was mentioned in one of the episodes of Mysteries & Scandals, which was a show that I LOVED, and wish was still running on tv.

Let's shower!

 It's been raining and raining and raining the last several days where I live.

I'm not talking about that kind of shower.

I'm talking about shower curtains. The first, or at most, the second thing you see in the morning.

AWESOME PRINT shower curtains!!

Wanna see?

Historically, nautical and fishy stuff is classic bathroom decor

========================================================================

The perfect shower curtain for getting your head in gear, for those of you who work in weird environments and/or with weird co-workers

=====================================================================

If this one doesn't wake you up, nothing will

==========================================================================

This one has almost a trompe l'oeil deal, since that zebra looks like he might run out of the curtain, and go prancing through your home.  Fun stuff!

==================================================================

Why not start your day - every day - with the bluebird of happiness?

=======================================================================

Something neato for the proud Celtic/Iris/Welsh/Scottish/Manx/Cornish person!
