Mug of the Month

Believe it or not, I actually saw Halloween candy in the supermarket in early August.

Who in their right mind would buy it over two months early???  Especially considering that it would probably be stale by Halloween.

Now it's September, and I'm sure that by the end of the month my local Big Lots will have fully stocked those three whole aisles they use for Christmas stuff.  And maybe a half-aisle for the Halloween stuff that hasn't yet sold.

In the spirit of selling holiday merchandise months too early, here's September's MotM:

circa 1906 Santa Claus rocking a purple robe.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is somebody I really like,

to wit,

Ann Sheridan for Ayds

She always seemed like the smartest person in the room.

The only movie of hers that I hate is I Was a Male War Bride.  For 105 minutes all she does is make fun of Cary Grant.  By minute 15, this becomes thoroughly tiresome.

September's Second Haul of Antiques and Untiques

More amazing amazements!

First up, two VERY neato pieces of jewelry:

fun ring featuring old-timey plastic buttons with rhinestones,
 lying on a butterscotch bakelite base.   SOLD

===================================================================

Now this is really wild:

See those little spots where you could put a rhinestone or other jewel?

======================================================================

Next we got this lovely enamel bud vase.  SOLD

======================================================================

Kitty Cucumber is in the house!
It's not Kitty Cuke herself, but rather her friend J. P. Buster, who's celebrating Christmas with a sprig of mistletoe.

It breaks my heart that they stopped making Kitty Cucumber items, yet they're still making those repulsive Precious Moments figurines.
========================================================================

       Let's go to South America!   SOLD
super epic neato hand-tooled leather make-up case and/or jewelry case.
Made in Brazil back in the 1960s.

============================================================================

FIND OF THE MONTH !

      'The Military Buttons of the States of the Union' SOLD
which dates to around 1900.
There are only 45 buttons here, because at the time there were only 45 states in the Union.

Some of these are soooooo beautiful.
=====================================================================

That's it for today.  Waaayyyyyy more on the way!

Until then, see more, get more here:

This was in the Tacony nabe of Northeast Philadelphia.
7200 Tulip would have been a 10 minute walk from where I used to live.

September's first haul of antiques and untiques!

It's been a long time since I posted a haul, but the wait was worth it.

What I've been finding lately is just so SO astonishingly AWESOME.

 Which brings us to...

this amazingly adorable juvenile hankie featuring dressed animals  SOLD

==========================================================================

we be having a boxer dog SOLD

=====================================================================

some neato old-timey plastic tumblers with fish!

========================================================================

With the holiday season coming up, you could really use this neato item:
You can roll out cookies!  canapes !!  petit-fours !!!
four different designs !!!!

==========================================================================

We be having a unicorn! SOLD

Our friend does have eyes.  I just couldn't get my camera to show them.

Also, I'm not sure if this is glass, or some hand-carved material.  Either/or it's a charmer.

==================================================================

BAKELITE !!!!!!!

There's something that's become popular - at least from what I've seen on Etsy - called 'fakelite,' or something similar.  These is not that.  This are the REAL deal.

==================================================================

Lastly, but far far from leastly, is the most awesome item I've had in years, to wit:

A bird in a bird.

Inside this bird is another bird!

It's hard to see that that thing inside is a bird.  Try as I might I simply could not get a good picture of it.  But it's there.  And it's a bird.  Trust me.
