The Tuesday Song of the Week

I was thrilled to find this, because you haven't lived until you've seen the West Philadelphia Orchestra.

The first time I saw them was directly after this VERY oddball opera the hubbage and I had attended, the plot of which was about a Serbian girl hanging with her friends the night before her wedding.  After the opera the audience moved to another room to take part in sort of a party* that sort of approximated a Serbian wedding reception.

Enjoy !!

'Zla S'dba' - West Philadelphia Orchestra

* A year or two after this event, I was on a focus group for Opera Philadelphia. The woman running the discussion had passed around some pictures, including pictures from this reception. The hubbage and I were in the picture.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is Joan Fontaine for Lux Toilet Soap:

Today, that would be a very confusing name.

Toilet soap????

Back in the day, the idea of toilet (or twa-lay) was about the process of washing oneself, dressing and attending to one's appearance.

It's hard to believe that she and her sister (Olivia de Havilland) had such a horrible relationship.  They usually played very sweet women, although I seem to remember seeing  Joan play a flinty character or two.

September Affair, the movie the ad is advertising, is pretty good, alas with the usual Hollywood ending for these kind of plots.

Tickets please

Yet another stub from a movie that I did see,

but which I have zero recollection of:

The Snapper, which was some Irish movie about somebody getting pregnant by somebody they don't know.

I can't imagine why I would want to sit through this.  Maybe all the other movie theatres within 20 miles were running brat pack movies.

Bag o' the Day

Lotsa snowy owl stories in the news lately.

The one seen in Central Park.  Then some story about a guy who saves snowy owls from airport runways.

That's only two things, but we never hear about snowy owls, so two is a lot, am I right?

Of course I am.

Which brings us to todays BotD:
