Tuesday Song of the Week

A fantastic song, and a VERY early music video:

 'Montego Bay' - Bobby Bloom

Sadly, four years after this song came out, Mr. Bloom either committed suicide, or was murdered.  Accounts differ, but it was a gunshot that ended his life.

May's haul of antiques and untiques

Tickets, please

I don't have a lot to say about this movie, but...

...I think instead of the title being Basic Instinct, a more descriptive title would have been Basically, It Stinks.

The Tuesday Song of the Week

Something neato from Ella...

'Satin Doll' - Ella Fitzgerald

When I was a kid, I thought her name was 'Elephants Gerald.'

I sing this song a LOT in my in-car one person concerts. Last Sunday (or maybe it was Saturday) the hubbage and I were visiting one of our neighbors, and we got talking about music.  The male half of the neighbor couple jams/sings with some friends of his.  My hubbage insisted I vocalize for them, so I sang my version of 'Satin Doll,' (which is way less embroidered than Ella's version), followed by my version of 'Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets,' only I changed the Lola to my name, which also has two syllables.

They were extremely bowled over - or they at least pretended to be -, and the female half of the couple was all, 'YOU GOTTA GET TOGETHER WITH THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' them being the guys her hubs jams/sings with.

We'll see what transpires.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is a somebody I actually sorta was aware of when I was a kid...

Pancho Gonzales for Viceroy cigarettes

'aware of' meaning I knew what his deal was, i.e. he was a tennis player.

Not that I had - or have - any interest in tennis.

BTW, this IS interesting.  A book about Bill Tilden, who was a huhYOOGE deal, tennis-wise, back in the day, written by a guy from Philly, Allen M. Hornblum.  He mainly writes about institutional cruelty in all its forms. (If you're interested in that topic, Hornblum's your man), but his book about Tilden is super well-worth the read.

It's called American Colossus: Big Bill Tilden and the Creation of Modern Tennis.

Available all over the 'net.

Bag o' the Day

The print on today's BotD is from the late 1870s,

and shows a thoroughly exquisite ball gown.

The perfect bag for the fashionista, and/or fan of Victorian... anything!

The Tuesday Song of the Week

Another song I first heard piped throw the sound thingie where I work.

Back when I was in theatre, if I was in a role that would require me to cry at some point, I'll fill my mind with a song like this.  And cry on cue.

                                                    'Everybody's Changing' - Keane
