The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is the tragic Gail Russell for Jurgens Lotion...

Gail was a very pretty girl.  She planned a career as a commercial artist, but Hollywood found her when she was age 18.  Even though she was very shy, and had zero acting experience.

She did not enjoy enjoy acting, but someone on set suggested she have a drink, and that might calm down her jitters.

One drink let to another and another and another..., until she began a full blown alcoholic.

She was found dead in her apartment at age 36, an empty liquor bottle by her side.

January 2023's Fifth Collection of Antiques and Uniques

Last week I got an AMAZING haul at a Salvation Army store that I rarely find anything at.

You'll see some of that haul in the next week or so.

Current amazements in my shop:

The Tuesday Song of the Week

 I had the idea to post a Dick Haymes song today, and landed on 'The More I See You,' which turned out to be a very slow version of the same song Chris Montez made a hit.

I like the Chris Montez version better.  I'm not the girl for slow music.

So...

suh'm kinda neat

Found in my change a couple weeks ago:

1965 quarter and 1966 quarter

I had a handful of change from the supermarket, and noticed a sound that didn't sound like regular change.  At first I thought I'd been given some foreign coins.

I'm guessing these sounded that way because they have a bit more heft than contemporary quarters.  They stopped using real silver in these coins in mid-1965, and mine is clearly after that date if you inspect the side of the coin.  But I think even so, it weighs more than a 2023 quarter.

Kinda astonishing to think they've been circulating for more than 50 years.

January 2023's Fourth Haul of Antiques and Untiques

Whew, I am astonished at the numbers of fantastic items just keep entering my Almighty Garage of Awesomeness.

These will, sooner or later, appear in my Etsy shop.

Here's a few that are already there:

        We be having Kitty Cucumber!! SOLD

Ellie decked out for a slumber party

Kitty Cucumber taking a bubble bath  SOLD

Kitty Cucumber and J. P. Buster shooting marbles

My aforementioned Almighty Garage of Awesomeness has several more Kitty Cucumber figurines hiding in boxes.

I'm still sad that they don't make these anymore, and I wish I knew why they stopped.

=====================================================================

Next up, our marvel of marvels

To wit: faux miniature bonsai tree with jade leaves, berries, and box.

The red berries aren't jade.  I think they're some kind of synthetic material.  My hubs insists it's some kind of stone or mineral.  The tendrils are some sort of wire.

 This is mind-bogglingly beautiful in person.

======================================================================

Enamel on copper!

I've had dozens of these over the years, but nothing this cool.
======================================================================

  This one's signed Annmarie Davidson. SOLD

Lastly, but thousands of miles from leastly, we have this adorable 1940s doll: SOLD
