Today's antiques and untiques

We've had a FANTASTIC couple of weeks re: finding the amazing and awesome.

 Such as...

Dragonware on steroids

=========================================================================

Royal Albert Lady Angela cup and saucer

========================================================================

It's Monkey Time !!!  SOLD

====================================================================

The most special thing we have at the moment   SOLD

Late 1940s wedding gown.

So simple -zero frou frou, zero beading, zero lace.

Just a bow at the neckline.

The gown is approximately a size 10.

=====================================================================

Next we have something about 60 years older than the gown above: SOLD

I've seen the classic hen on the next, and bunny on the nest, and cat on the nest.  And even fox on the nest.  But this is the first time I've seen hand holding bird on the nest.

The patent date here is 1889.

=====================================================================

                    Kitty family!  SOLD

======================================================================

That's it for today.

TONS more on the way.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is...

Joan Crawford for Royal Crown Cola
This is from 1944.

So many people today think of Joan Crawford as the harridan in Mommie Dearest, all rage, and heavy makeup and thick black eyebrows.

She was actually very beautiful in her prime.  Even without makeup.  Years ago, the hubbage and I were in Wellsboro, PA for a weekend, and in the restaurant of one of the old-timey historic hotels there is a sepia photo of Joan from around 1940, when she visited that hotel. In the photo she's very dressed down, and wearing zero makeup.

And yet REALLY good-looking.

Today it's 'RC Cola.'

BIG advertising ashtray haul

 Found at a yard sale this morning, EIGHT advertising ashtrays,

and therefore,

EIGHT more additions to my advertising ashtray collection!!!

Wanna see?

 Hotel El Rancho Vegas

The first of the Las Vegas ashtrays that was part of this haul.

The ashtray the from original El Rancho, which had a horrible fire in the early 1960s, then limped along for awhile before going out of business entirely.  In the early 1980s, the Thunderbird renamed itself El Rancho, but that version closed in 1992.

======================================================================

Joe W. Brown's Horseshoe Club

Lotsa interesting info on the 'net about this place.

=======================================================================

Now it's IHOP

But back in the day, it was the International House of Pancakes.

I like that name better.

======================================================================

La Fondue

'Fondue is fun!'

If there's anything more Seventies than fondue, I cannot think what it could be.

=====================================================================

Back to Las Vegas

The New Frontier

Demolished in 2007

==================================================================

The Silver Slipper Casino

Some neat info on the 'net about this as well.

========================================================================

Steve Phillips Restaurant

Yonkers, NY

Today there's a McDonald's at that address.

True fact: My maternal great-grandparents' first stop in the US was Yonkers, circa 1894.  A hundred and a bunch of years later, I now have in-laws that live there.

======================================================================

Town Tavern

Bronxville, NY

It's now called 'JC Fogerty's Town Tavern.'

I also have in-laws in Bronxville.

Downtown Bronxville has more stationery stores than anywhere else I've ever been.

The Villager, which was/is(?) a literary magazine based in Bronxville, published one of my stories years ago.

Let's go to Broadway !!

 YES !!!

Specifically Broadway in the period from about 1912 to 1930.

Seven or eight years ago, I found at a flea market a huhYOOGE collection of Broadway playbills from that era.

All the prints below come from that collection.

Still in business!

AND on a tapestry!

==========================================================================

A lovely Ziegfeld girl, with a coiffure that Mary Pickford wore in many of her films

 And on a tote bag!

==========================================================================

From the Academie National de Musique et de Danse's 1927 production of Faust.

The gent on the above mouse pad was listed in the playbill as M.(as in Monsieur) Huberty.

I wonder which role he played.

======================================================================

From Yip Yip Yaphank, a 1918 revue by Irving Berlin

 AND on a clock!

=======================================================================

The Yankee Doodle Dandy's theatre must have closed many decades ago, but I can't find out when.

On a throw pillow!

=========================================================================

This is puzzling, because it's the Winter Garden Company at Jolson's 50th Street Theatre

What were they doing there, if not at the Winter Garden???

Maybe not the Winter Garden, but on a lamp shade.

====================================================================

One of the coolest ones in the collection, this was the playbill for

1927 Broadway production of Dracula, starring Bela Lugosi

 On a jigsaw puzzle!

=====================================================================

That's it for today.

HUNDREDS more in my Zazzle store!
