The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star - now somewhat forgotten, or a least nowhere near as SUPER famous as he once was, hit the planet with the name Władziu Valentino Liberace.

You may recall another TSMMBI from a couple of months ago that also opened with the words "I'm from Milwaukee..."

I always thought William Campbell looked a lot like Liberace.

You might remember him from his appearances on the original Star Trek

Tuesday Song of the Week

Sorry that I haven't posted one of these in weeks.

I'm all kinds of up to my eye-balls in busyness.

This one is really timely-ish, because it's just plain horrendous outside, i.e. sweaty and icky to the max.

Enjoy.

SCAM ALERT

Last week I clicked on one of those on-line articles re: How to Make More Money, and it listed all kinds of neato ways to make a few more bucks.

I could really use a few more bucks because I am trying to knock down a huhYOOGE vet bill.

Almost $5000 huhYOOGE.

One of means touted was Branded Surveys, 'which pays you to take surveys.'

So ever and always being The Idiot Queen, I looked into it.

It's easy to set up, and you get to do lotsa online surveys, and collect points, which they claim - note that this is a claim, not a promise - you will be able to turn in to money.

I signed up, did TONS of surveys in the last three days, and then tried to turn my 1400 or so points into actual money.

It can't be done.

Why?

Because if you attempt to do that, there is requirement after requirement after requirement after requirement after requirement.  And once you're through with those requirements, there are at least ten more to go.

Anything they can think up to get you from actually getting a dime.

Keywords for your edification: Branded Surveys IS A SCAM.

BRANDED SURVEYS IS A SCAM.

History

Me, I'm all kinds of fascinated about history.

Especially forgotten history.

Here's something neato you prolly didn't know:

Marlboros started out as a classy cigarette for ladies.

'Cigarette of successful men and lovely women.'

Alas, that advertising pitch didn't really fly, and in 1954 they chucked female appeal, and went after the guys via the Marlboro Man

For the time, it makes sense they used a cowboy.

Cowboy's and Westerns were huhYOOGE at that time. In the 1950s there were more than 80 Westerns on TV

If they'd changed the campaign ten years earlier, the Marlboro Man would have been a military man.

If they'd changed it ten years later, the Marlboro Man would probably be a spy.

Thus ends today's history lesson.
