History

Me, I'm all kinds of fascinated about history.

Especially forgotten history.

Here's something neato you prolly didn't know:

Marlboros started out as a classy cigarette for ladies.

'Cigarette of successful men and lovely women.'

Alas, that advertising pitch didn't really fly, and in 1954 they chucked female appeal, and went after the guys via the Marlboro Man

For the time, it makes sense they used a cowboy.

Cowboy's and Westerns were huhYOOGE at that time. In the 1950s there were more than 80 Westerns on TV

If they'd changed the campaign ten years earlier, the Marlboro Man would have been a military man.

If they'd changed it ten years later, the Marlboro Man would probably be a spy.

Thus ends today's history lesson.
