Back in the day, this would have been considered REALLY classy high-end furniture, at least in rowhouse Philly.
One wonders if the stuff that Martha and the rest of our contemporary home decor mavens have pushed on us as being tasteful and 'a good thing' will one day suffer this same ignominious fate.
