I did an antiques show on Sunday, made TONS of muns.  Muns.  Money.

Chinese 'lily foot' slippers

Originally worn by a woman who - as a young child - had her toes curled under, then pressed with great force downwards and squeezed into the sole of the foot until the toes broke. Then the arch was forcibly broken.  Tighter binding forced the ball of the foot and the heel to meet.

 

Google 'Chinese foot-binding.'  The pictures of what this done to women's feet are horrific.The goal was that women's feet be no longer than 3" from toe to heel.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today, we have two stars for the price of one.

To wit, Perry Como and Jo Stafford for Chesterfield cigarettes.

Perry had a gazillion hits, but the one I remember most from one I was a kid was 'Catch a Falling Star.'  

Saved on my computer I have two duets of Jo Stafford and Johnny Mercer singing 'Conversation While Dancing,' a great song with I think contains history's first use of the word 'groovy.'  and also 'It's Great to Be Alive.'
