That Emily M. label showing the size as 11/12, is actually showing the 1970s version of size 0/2.  So while the dress is huge in awesomeness and also vegan appeal - what's more vegan that carrots? -- it's very small in size.

1960s Dream Pets dog chillin' on her surfboard SOLD

resting on her elbows like all cool people -- and stuffed toy dogs - do.

When I was a kid, my oldest brother worked as a busboy at Howard Johnson.  Almost every time he came home, it was with a Dream Pet he'd gotten for me from the gift shop.

Wish I still had them all.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is Rochelle Hudson for Lane Cedar Chests

When I was in high school all girls in the senior class were invited to a local furniture store to pick up a FREE cedar chest.

What they never mentioned was that the cedar 'chest' you would actually get was a small cedar jewelry box.  

Mug of the Month

In honor of Labor Day,

a mug that recalls the rough days of the early 20th century labor movement.

It was a lousy time to work in mines.  In some mines, miners were required to rent their tools.  Subtract the cost of rent from what they earned, and the total was approximately $0.  Today we call that slave labor.

You wouldn't want to be working in a sweatshop either.  You'd be locked in the sewing room, lest you waste time on bathroom breaks or lunch or any other human necessity.  
The 146 girls and women burned to death in the Triangle Shirtwaist Company fire were victims of this practice.  (I said girls, because some of the workers were as young as 15)

Nor would you want to work in a slaughterhouse.  Read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle.  If that doesn't turn you into a vegetarian, nothing will.

Those who fought for working people could expect to be arrested, or shot, as in the case of what happened at the Haymarket riot, which began as a peaceful rally in support of an 8-hour work day.
