The Star Made Me Buy It

Yet another ad for Camels, this one with Cole Porter and Patricia Morison.

And also with Gene Bearden, Gladys Swarthout, Jeanne Wilson, Gene Sarazen, Sylvia MacNeal (or McNeil or McMeal - I can't find where I out the original ad), Dusty Campbell.

Bearden was a baseball player (here's an interesting story about him and stolen valor:  https://lepplin.substack.com/p/the-mystery-of-gene-bearden)

 Swarthout was an opera singer

Wilson was an Olympic swimmer.

Sarazen was a professional golfer

Sylvia McSomething is obviously not Google-able.

Campbell was a sport fisherman.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Cole Porter was a great song writer, but his presentation was short - 5'6" - scrawny and not terribly good-looking.

Not that there's something wrong with being short, scrawny and not terribly good-looking.

Porter was played by Cary Grant in the film Night and Day.  Cary Grant stood 6'2", was not scrawny in the least, and was among the most handsome two or three stars who ever walked on a movie lot.  Ever.

Therein lies the problem.

As for Patricia Morison, I don't have much to say about her, other than the fact that she died at age 103.
