Today's star is Jane Wyman for Westmore Cosmetics...
The Westmore dynasty kept Hollywood stars looking good for decades. In just about any movie dating from the 1920s to the late 1960s, the Westmore name - Perc Westmore, Bud Westmore or Frank Westmore - would be in the credits as 'makeup artist.'I wish I knew how long Westmore Cosmetics were available to the public.
There's a neat page on the 'net about The House of Westmore. Google it.

On to Jane.
A few weeks ago, I saw The Yearling, about a family living in the Florida after the Civil War. Jane Wyman played Ma. She always seems kinda cranky, which is explained by the fact that she had six of her kids die on her, and she's left with one, played by the extremely cute Claude Jarman, Jr.
I was astonished to learn that Jane Wyman was nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars.
She did nothing special in The Yearling at all, beyond being cold and cranky. Donna Reed in It's a Wonderful Life acted rings around her, but did not get a nomination, I'm guessing because that movie didn't do well at the time.
I liked Jane in All That Heaven Allows, and Magnificent Obsession, mainly because I'm a sucker for Douglas Sirk melodramas.
