Today's star is Joan Bennett for French's bird seed:
The add is from 1943 or maybe 1944, and the film mentioned - Once Off Guard - had its title changed to The Woman in the Window. Once Off Guard was the title of the novel the movie was based on.
I have only one Joan Bennett memory: I think I saw her once on the Mike Douglas Show.
According to Wikipedia, she appeared on Mike Douglas five times.
The Mike Douglas show was taped in Philadelphia, and I knew lotsa people who got tickets for the show. I'll never get why it never occurred to my mother to get tickets. They were, after all, free, and she would sign up for ANYTHING that was free.
Speaking of birds and bird seed, I would love to have a pet bird, but my hubbage, being a pet nazi probably wouldn't agree. But I frequently put bread, and other things wildlife likes out in the backyard for whoever - fur or feather - my be interested in partaking.
In the last year, I've gotten two cans of what turned out to be VERY disappointing party peanuts.
How can anybody screw up party peanuts???
So the horrible peanuts I got from Aldi ended up in the backyard. Within five minutes there were five blue jays feasting on them.
A month ago, I got a container of party peanuts from another store, and they too were inedible. This was a big container - two pounds at least - and again, the moment I left them out a whole pack of blue jays arrived.
I rarely see blue jays any other time, so I wish I knew what marvelous part of their inner wiring can pick up the scent of party peanuts miles away.
