True fact: although contemporary folks would automatically assume the Victorian baby gracing the Victorian baby button is a girl, it could also be a boy. The Victorians dressed their babies - both boys and girls - equally elaborately, and often boys would be in dresses - however dresses which looked nothing like what little girls wore - until they were age three or so. =======================================================================
