the Tuesday Song of the Week

The other night the hubs and I watched True Stories, which I hadn't seen since it came out in '86.  It has one of my Top 10 All-Time Favorite Songs:
Wild Wild Life - Talking Heads

At the time I could not believe that this did not get an Oscar nomination for best song, and yet that stupid piece of garbage ('Mean Green Critter from Somewhere') from that awful Little Shop of Dreck movie (which, yes, I did waste money good money on, and for my trouble lost 94 minutes of my life that I'll never get back) DID get nominated.

Idiots.

New old fashions

I originally wanted to call this post 'New old clothes,' but that doesn't sound very appealing.

I have TONS and TONS and TONS of stuff to go through, but I'm very very busy with other stuff, so all I have to show you is...

darling darling dotted swiss dress,

with super-nice and VERY full skirt

Next up, ROWRRRR

You're seen leopard print lingerie, and leopard print outerwear, but have you ever seen...
a leopard print dress??

Me neither.

Here we have an unimaginably exquisite scarf
which I  just couldn't get a good picture of.
(Yes, I'm quite aware that the full view of the leopard dress is also, um, not a great pic.)

Anyway, the design of the scarf is in the weave.  Above the little treasure chests are
floating the treasures.  Neat, huh?

Speaking of treasures,
GOLD Mad Men era pumps.

Chintzy

I'm so sorry to have been MIA recently.

One minute I'm in Florida, the next I'm getting all kindsa stuff done to my computer, rendering it not useable on accounta it's in the shop being updated and what have you.

But here I am.

I'm back.

And with some awe-inspiring stuff, to wit...

some exquisitely mahvelous Crown Ducal chintz dishware, Blue Chintz pattern

almost all of it sold ten minutes after I listed it,

  which you'd expect, right?
\
Replacements, Ltd. calls this piece the 'lily pond.'
Cause it's big, I guess.

Is nice, yes?*

*There's this game I play with my hubs when we're set up at flea markets, called 'the Russian Game.'  Where we live you get a lot of Russians at the fleas.  As they approach the table, when they find something they like, they say, 'How much is?'  And then you tell them, they offer an absurdly low-ball figure.

So I'll come up to our table, pick up something and say, 'How much is?' in my best (and bo authentic) Russian accent.  He gives the price, and I say, 'I give you fyeefty cents.'  The fun of the game is watching people witness this with their eyes rolling, and sending pity  in my hubs's direction.

newest old ties

Only three this time (because, really, I desperately need to engage in housework), but what ties they are!

Oh, what a (really cool) fright.

stuff I got in Florida

We shopped all over.

ALL OVER.
(even though the reason we were there was to attend a wedding.)
Not just in Florida, but also in Georgia, and North and South Carolina.

And I got:
cute dog bottle
purchased in the flea market in the parking lot of the Weeki Wachee Mermaids attraction,
which was less than a mile from our hotel.

The next few items came from Renninger's in Mt. Dora

early 19th century scherenschnitte of Frederick the Great,
his palace, his pooches, his windmill, and a few bars from one of his musical compositions

Murano glass toucan

violin ashtray

this beauty once worked at Sebring's famous Cathouse Restaurant.
Judging from the tray, I'm guessing she was a busser.

Another thing I got at Mt. Dora was an old mariachi musician's suit.  That's still in the car.

This old University of Florida Gators gator
came from a co-op north of where we were staying.
I also bought two ties at this place.  Photos not yet edited.

And now the items from elsewhere in the South (although I'm pretty sure we stopped at one in Ocala, and maybe bought something):

An art nouveau beauty,
probably by Schafer & Vater

This rare and fascinating billy goat cream pitcher
looks WAY better in person.
