I've stated more than once on this blog about how much I like Christmas.
Which is not at all.
This brings us to a poem I wrote, and read to a poetry group a few Decembers ago, with the caveat, 'You probably won't like this but...'
Anyway, here 'tis.
Enjoy.
or not.
Xmas
If you’ll excuse the term,
and pardon my French,
It’s all happy horseshit,
and homie don’t play that.
✶
Give me my Hallmark moments,
Give me a Kodak time of my life,
Give me a break.
✶
Bring out the Ipod,
failing that, earplugs.
The only protection against
Breathy songstresses
and their annual public assault,
raising my hackles with.
Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart
and
All I Want for Christmas Is
NOT you,
but
an honest admission
that this
has nothing to do with
peace on earth, goodwill toward men
but rather a once yearly
nation-wide hemorrhage
of money.
cloaked in the warm freakin’ fuzzies.

Welcome to our Christmas-free TSOTW!
Heard this one for the very first time on the local oldies station (WMID), which plays all kinds of stuff the other oldies stations never play.
Enjoy.
'Yogi' - The Ivy Three
Today's star is somebody I'd never ever expect to find advertising anything.
Monty Woolley for Ethyl Corporation
He's most famous, I think, for playing the lead in The Man Who Came to Dinner. A movie I don't care for, because it seems to be one of those deals where the playwright (this began life on Broadway) was just trying to outdo some other 'in the know' competitor. Ann Sheridan is channeling Gertrude Lawrence, for one, and Banjo, is obviously Harper Marx. The lead is based on Alexander Wollcott, a Broadway critic back in the day. Color me bored.
He had a great role in The Bishop's Wife. That's a film I can recommend.
Ties have very much been on the back burner for the last several months.

Last week we had 'Just Like Heaven,' by the Cure.
This week we have...
Today we're going to show you some maahvelous notebooks.
Spiral-bound, and with hard covers. Soft covers too flimsy, and also not awesome.
What we have is awesome. AND the images on the front cover also appear on the back cover in mirror image. Unless there's text on the image. It will still also appear on the back, but not in mirror image. That would be silly.
Tomorrow we'll have little notebooks that make neato stocking stuffers. These here are more for important things, like school and work and thoughts and ideas.
Note that all have 60 pages, two sides per pages (obviously) so that adds up to 120 surfaces you can make notes on, or mathematical calculations, song lyrics, and/or your suspicions about what's going on with that guy in the accounts inconceivable department and the gal from corporate benefits.
Wanna see?
Neat notebook for the news hound!
=======================================================================
Image found in an early 1930s women's magazine, and captioned 'eyes that charm.' I hand-colored it, and I think the eyes really do charm. Green eyes always do.A hypnotically neato notebook. Lotsa gals, and not just a few men would go for this.
