The Tuesday Song of the Week

Every time I hear this song, I'm back in the early 1980s,

around 8:00 a.m. ironing my dress,

for wearing at my summer job at the Dry Goods.

At that time of the morning, channel 29 ran a show called Video Rock, which is where I saw this video:

'She's a Beauty' - the Tubes

Bag o' the Day

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star ad is something of a rarity.

At least, I think it is.

For a number of stars, I have a number of different ads.

But I've only seen one -- and it's a full color beaut -- with Barbara Stanwyck.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Mrs. Robert Cummings (and Mr. Robert Cummings) for Cigarillo

I'm sure I'm the only person in the entire universe who remembers this, but way back in the day, there was something called 'Cigarlets'  I'm guessing they were something like cigarillos.

Tuesday Song of the Week

A few weeks ago, my husband, a friend and I went to see a production of Rigoletto.

It was UNBELIEVABLY awesome.  The guy who was Rigoletto could out-sing every baritone I've ever heard, and then some.

Wish he was on YouTube.

Sadly, he ain't.

But the following is on YouTube.  Note that it has nothing to do with Rigoletto, but there's a teensy bit of opera going on.
'Rockaria' - ELO

car car

C-A-R.

Car car C-A-R was an outdoor game my little friends and I played as kids.  Wish I remembered how it was played.

========================================================================

exquisite Limoges cup and saucer  SOLD

========================================================================

1970s Mountain Artisans skirt
 The photo does not do justice to this marvelous skirt.  This is the rare Mountain Artisans garment that is not quilted, but it's awesome nevertheless.
========================================================================

 Another item that the photo does not do justice to:
a mind-bogglingly gorgeous Royal Worcester plate   SOLD

I have only one, and in spite of deep research haven't found a name for the pattern.
A lovely heirloom plate for serving fudge, or petit fours, or macaroons.

How did I get this idea?  Well, eons ago I had an uncle who would make fudge once a year, and always always always did he put it out on a certain old plate.  And that plate only.

The uncle is long gone, and so is the plate, but I see the identical plate now and then at a flea market or auction, and I always think about him.

========================================================================

Russell Wright is in the house!  SOLD
 These are 'Residential' pattern, made from Melmac/plastic.  Condition is AMAZING.  I don't think these were ever used.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star had a wide variety of roles:

MIldred Pierce's monstrous daughter,

the lady with the pretty soprano in the musical version of Kismet,

and later the lady selling Skippy Peanut Butter (oops, no, that was Annette Funicello).  Ann did Hostess commercials.

Ann Blyth for RC Cola

Her she is selling Hostess stuff:

Here's an Ann Blyth-related hoot:
