for ladies only

The item above is called a 'merry widow.'
It hails from the 1950's.
Until at least the mid-70s ladies were expected to have all their pulchritude - top and bottom - encased in something that would prevent jiggle.  (Even for those gals who had hardly anything TO jiggle.)

    I understand your frustration about finding a regular old slip but thank goodness for spanx! I don't know what i'd do without them.

  2. In the 1950's Warner's put out a version called the merry widow. Same name as the operetta, so I guess they thought the name was classy and evocative.
