The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is the guy who won baseball Rookie of the Year in 1952.

Joe Black for Jeris Antiseptic Hair Tonic

It's kinda odd that in the main pic he's clean shaven, but in the other pic he has a mustache.

And the other other pic is a guy with a mustache and a totally different hair style.

Lucky Dip

Some REALLY neato stuff today,

and each and every item would make a marvelous gift for one of your nears and dears.

Or just for yourself.

I have this tank top. When I wear it, I get tons of compliments, to the point that I've been counting the number of compliments per wearing.

Last time I wore it: 8 compliments.

The record to date: 37 compliments.

Nearly always the compliments 'OMG that is SO cute! Where'ja get it?'

                                                           Celtic print hip flask

Keep your Irish whiskey and/or your Scotch whiskey* handy at all times!

Or, at least some times.- I don't think it's a great idea to bring it to work.  However, I've had a couple of nightmare jobs, where a flask full of hooch would have gone a long way re: helping me to get through the day.  .

This would also be VERY useful in helping get through those times you think you're really gonna need it, like when you're required to show up at the home of your crazy uncle, or the home of MAGA in-laws, etc. etc. etc.

*True fact: Highland Scots have Celtic roots.  And lowland Scots have Germanic roots.

                                                      Indian chief print throw pillow

'Choice Evaporated Apples - All the properties of the Apple except the water.'

I had to look up 'evaporated apples,' because that's a term I've never heard.

Turns out it's synonymous with apple chips.

Anyhoo, a VERY neato throw pillow for the country decor, farm decor  and;o

There are few minor things that soak up memories more than a great apron.

This one, due to its color, will also readily hide spilt wine, spilt pasta, spilt gravy, etc. etc. etc., without it barely showing!

The Tuesday Song of the Week

A VERY boppy example of black gospel,

found in the very same album I found eons ago in a Salvation Army store that used to exist in Trenton.

                                                    'Galatians 6:9' - Michael Jones

Here's the link to the song:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz7JNYn4Zr0&list=PLQUc968a0XD40zHW_wk6j2Lsqum7x9xbU

For some reason now when I put a YouTube link here, the links don't work.. (And the videos on Youtube claiming to help with this problem are not helpful AT ALL.)

But if you cut and past the link above, i.e. the www.... thingie, it will take you right to the song.

So click on it, and enjoy!

Lucky Dip

Our latest Lucky Dip has an automotive theme!

Wanna see?

That very handsome automobile is a 1941 Pontiac Deluxe Torpedo.

In tray form.

One of the very very few automobile advertising images I've seen set at night.

Risky, but extremely awesome.

The car is a 1934 Packard, on canvas art.

Get it here: www.zazzle.com/1934_packard_automobile_faux_canvas_print-256927005502633367

Another VERY cool - and kinda huge* - 1930s car.

This is a 1934 Lincoln model KA.

On a throw blanket!

Get it here: www.zazzle.com/1934_lincoln_model_ka_throw_blanket-256371893187078078

*I saw a nearly identical car years ago at an auction.  It was mind-boggling how big this car was.  Easily more than twice the size of the average contemporary luxury car.

======================================================================

Another 1930s ride, this one from Chrysler.

They made some really beautiful cars back then.

This one's on a jigsaw puzzle!

Get it here: www.zazzle.com/1938_chrysler_sweeps_on_jigsaw_puzzle-116796737229160660

======================================================================

1949 Mercury coupe (on a tie !!).  Right about the time they began making fat cars.

(I think of them as fat cars.  Because they look fat.)

When I was a kid, two of my friends' dads had fat cars.  Which is kinda odd, because by that time, fat cars were really done.

Get the tie here: www.zazzle.com/1949_green_mercury_sedan_tie-151483392243167611

======================================================================

1950 race car.

On a notebook !!

Note that the image appears on both the front and back covers, in mirror image.

Which is VERY cool.

A great example of mantiques, i.e. antiques that appeal to men.

=====================================================================

                                                        AWESOME old drapery

Note that the actual color of this drape is a deep red.  That pinkish whatsis is the result of glare.

=======================================================================

gorgeous, and somewhat art deco belt buckle

Surprise revealed !!

The surprise I announced earlier today revealed.

To wit: my Etsy shop is again rocking and rolling, and in an extreme manner.

Why did it go away?

I was very busy with other things in April.  And when May happened, I found out that a dear friend, who I'd known for more than 30 years, had suddenly passed away.

And I inherited all his stuff.

My friend is the guy on the left with his back to the camera.

We met while working at Movies Unlimited* (google it!) We never dated, but bonded over our love for old - and really old - movies, and cats.

*Oh, the stories I could tell you about that place.

Here's one: My first day there, I was taken into the back room, and shown how to re-seal videos so they'd look like they were unused.  Yep, they sold used videos as 'new videos.'

That's only one of the scams they were running.

Anyway, his apartment held TONS of stuff, and I and another friend of his dealt with that tons of stuff.  Which kinda had me fried, along with just dealing with the fact that he was actually gone.

And then June was very busy with non-Etsy stuff, and so was July, August, September, and October.

But we're back, and all is well.

ATTENTION !!

 IMPORTANT SURPRISE LATER TODAY

MAKE VERY SURE YOU COME BACK

FOR IT

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Tuesday Song of the Week

Let's go back to 1962, shall we?

                                                         'Dear One' - Larry Finnegan

This reached no. 11 on the US charts.

Hit number 1 in Australia that year.

Today I was looking at lists of late 1950s/early 60s hits in Australia.  It's kinda fascinating that nearly all the hits on the lists are from US artists.

The Tuesday Song of the Week

Now and then I hear this song piped through the PA where I work:

'Power Over Me' - Dermot Kennedy

Relics

Was in a local thrift shop last week - Overpriced Thrift, Rio Grande, NJ - when I found these:

This is the very same luggage my parents had when I was a kid.

I'm guessing they bought it around the time they were married.

At some point, they stopped using these, and went for less heavy options like what's out today.

However, I think they were more attractive than that plastic-ey stuff people use now.

Meet the Babies

Not actual human-style babies (ewww),

we have cat babies !!!!

These darlings are three little sisters, named Mopsy, Flopsy, and Pixie.

From the South Ocean County Animal Shelter.

They popped up on my Facebook feed a couple weeks ago.

Even though there are dozens of adorable cats and kittens at the shelter I volunteer at (Cape May County Animal Welfare Society), I felt these three really needed my help.

All three are, as you can see, black.  Black cats usually have a hard time getting adopted.

And all three have FIV, which means their immune systems aren't the best.  Another reason it would be somewhat difficult for them to find a home.

So, two strikes against them.

I have experience with FIV cats. They can live as long as any other cat, provided their indoors-only, and are well-cared for.

All my cats, going back to Cat no. 1, whom I got when I was age 7, were/are indoors-only and very well-cared for.

The only times any of them have been outdoors was a) they were born outside or b) I would let them out in the backyard for maybe 20 minutes so they could play Jungle Cat, but for every second of those 20 minutes I would be out with them, making sure they did not exit the yard.

Currently, the furmily resides in my office, which boasts numerous cat trees, numerous beds, and the Food Lady's* attention for hours and hours a day.

*They've always referred to me as The Food Lady.
