The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is William Bendix for Personna Blades.

i.e. for shaving.

The movie cited here - Blaze of Noon - came out in 1947.

I could have sworn I saw him in a movie about some criminal who gets involved with some kinda religious thingie, and he becomes a monk or something similar.

Or maybe it was Paul Douglas who played the criminal got involved with the religious thingie.

I often mistake Douglas for Bendix and vice versa.

Tickets, please

Thus far, all my 'Tickets, please' posts showed my decades-old movie ticket stubs.

I stopped saving stubs once they stopped putting the title of the movie you paid to see on the ticket.

For the last movie I saw, however, the title was on the ticket:

We - the hubbage and I - saw One Life on a Sunday afternoon back in March.

Among the movies showing there - this was AMC Voorhees in Voorhees, NJ -  was Kung Fu Panda 4, which had been sold out.

One Life not so much.  I was sure we were the only people in the theater, until when the movie was over we saw two other people seated about ten rows behind us.

Tedious junk sells out.

A film worth seeing sells four tickets.

Welcome to 21st century America.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Welcome to our THIRD ad with Barbara Stanwyck, but it's the earliest of the three, year-wise:

You can almost always tell the dates of these ads because 99% of the time, they mention the title of there next movie.  This one mentions Stella Dallas, which came out in 1937.

Our other two Barbara Stanwyck ads were for Max Factor, and mentioned her next flick would be Double Indemnity, which came out in 1944, and for Lux Flakes, mentioning No Man of Her Own, which came  out in 1950.  .

Another Lucky Dip next week !!

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today we actually have a twofer:

Both Louis Calhern, and Walter Huston for Williams Shaving Cream.

I've never heard of Williams Shaving Cream, but I have heard of Lectric Shave, which was a Williams product.

Both men appeared in two of my favorite movies.

Louis Calhern as the spy boss in Notorious, which stars Cary Grant at his handsomest.

Walter Huston as Sam Dodsworth in Dodsworth, one of the best - and certainly one of the most grown-up - movies of the 1930s.
