Today's star is somone I'm sure 99.9999% of you have never heard of.
Charles Winninger for Blatz Beer
He was sort of an home-grown American version of S. Z. Sakall, i.e. a chubby and lovable presence in a ton of supporting roles. At least half the movies he was in I've never heard of. The only movie I saw him in was Ziegfeld Girl, in which he played Judy Garland's father.
According to IMDB, he appeared 12 times on The Charles Farrell Show, something else I've never heard of. Back in the 1950s there were several TV series headed by old timey stars - Loretta Young, Robert Montgomery, etc. etc. Charles Farrell was one of those.
Farrell might be better remembered as Gale Storm's dad in My Little Margie.

The intro to this song sounds almost exactly to other song entries of the era, i.e. 1978-1979.
Yet another song you'll almost NEVER hear on any oldies station...
'Love Takes Time' - Orleans
This has me thinking about something I watched a few days ago, i.e. the first episode of The Golden Bachelor, which I dvr-ed.
It actually made me kinda sad, because it was so apparent that some of those women were absolutely desperate for a man.
What was really sad was that several of those twenty women had less than two minutes screen time before they were sent away. The astonishment on one woman's face almost made me teary.
The Golden Bachelor himself was kinda teary when the rejects were standing there looking, well, rejected.
Today's ticket is a movie that, in my opinion, is Quentin Tarantino at his Quentin Tarantino-est
Reservoir Dogs was actually one of my mother's favorite movies. Which tells you a lot about my mother.

Today's star is probably best known for at least two Irish roles...
Victor McLaglen for French's Worcestershire Sauce
The ad mentions his latest movie, i.e. Roger Touhy - Gangster, which dates the ad to 1944.In the two movies he's best known for are The Informer, and The Quiet Man, he played Irish Catholics. His other best known turn would probably as one of the three leads in Gunga Din.
In real life, he was neither Irish nor Catholic.
He was born in England, from Scottish background. His father was a missionary with the Free Protestant Episcopal Church.
For some reason I conflate him with Lawrence Tierney, who looked the teeniest bit like McLaglan when Tierney hit age 60 or so.
We have tons more in my Almighty Garage of Awesomeness, but most of that is still waiting for me to do something with it.
Here's the super-mega-neato stuff I have done something with:

At one time they owned Fuddrucker's. For a short time there was a Fuddruckers in Philly, on the property that was once the huhYOOGE Sears tower warehouse. It was imploded on October 31, 1994. I'm remember being in the shower at the time of the implosion. For reals.
BTW, Fuddruckers: best hamburger I ever had. The other best hamburger I ever had was at Rossi's Bar & Grille, which at the time was in Trenton. Now it's in Hamilton.
