*Puss in Boots, or rather Puss'n Boots was once a well-known cat food.  I haven't seen it on the shelves in years, but according to the 'net, it's still canned at the Bloomsburg, PA cannery.

Judging from his austere expression, and what looks a little like a judge's wig on his head, I'm guessing this is the head of a judge.

His expression also - to me, at least - seems to hint at all he's seen over his tenure.  He probably has tons of fascinating stories to tell, if you listen closely.

REALLY from around 1600, or earlier.  In my 30+ years as an antiques dealer, this is the oldest item I've ever found.  

We'll never know if the fellow on the right successfully avoided getting hit on the noggin by that falling crock.

The Star Made Me Buy It

Today's star is seventeen year-old Elizabeth Taylor, for Featherknits sweaters...

Her latest movie cited here - 'The Conspirator - was released in the theaters with the 'The' missing, l.e. the title became simply Conspirator .

She passed away in 2011, and they're STILL writing books about her.  The latest one came out in 2022, but I'm sure in the next ten years there will at least another one or two.

When it was over, I looked up the background of it, shocked to learn that the movie had been a bomb when it came out in 1953.

How could a movie based on a story - and script - written by Dr. Seuss be a bomb???

Here's what one dish looks like:

The pattern is Johnson Brothers Autumn Delight.  

Note that these look SOOOOO much better in person.

VERY unique because he's made from compo*, with VERY heavy insides, probably metal.
 

What we antiques dealers call 'compo' is short for 'composition,' which is a combination of wood pulp, glue, and one or two more ingredients.  A more common term for it is Syroco wood.

Mug of the Month

The image on today's mug was found in a 1930s Buck Rogers comic book.

It depicts Buck's heroic girlfriend, Wilma Deering.

Not sure if she listened to Dr. Huer, but she probably did, because she appeared in later issues.
